Global goal of the methods!
The co-operation between the levels
As previously mentioned, an adapter model is the interface between the concept and the component level.
This interface is the key item in an associative development process, because it offers the possibility to edit both levels separately and to connect them. The application of adapter models presents the opportunity to accelerate the design process by switching the concept level of new projects or vehicles on an already existing component level or vice versa.
The separation of the two design levels and the simultaneous release of components and adapters at a given time is an investment in the future and should in any case be taken into account regarding the product data management and the design process!
Furthermore, this separation enables a product development with external partners, including two or more companies. For example, a design office works out the concept and a development partner assumes the design and the manufacturing of components.
How to start new projects based on precedent projects
1. Step: With the start of the concept period the complete concept level (working model) from the precedent project „Project_1" is copied and stored as new project named “Project_2".
2. Step: The „Project_2" is processed until the start of the “component design".
3. Step: Now the complete component level from „Project_1" is copied and stored anew. The maturity of this copy has to correspond to the maturity of the new concept level.
4. Step: The complete component level is placed to the concept level of „Project_2".
After having updated the component level the components are checked for commonality and are accordingly extracted from the component level and declared as repetition part.
